I’m Ailish,a freelance translator & proofreader
My curiosity and love for languages dates back to balmy evenings in the French Dordogne mingling with French-speaking children and trying to figure out what they were saying. Fast forward to the winter months in Ireland where I eagerly awaited my pen-pal’s handwritten letter so that I could jot down some new French words and start writing my next letter.
Translation was part of my destiny. Now based in Catalonia, immersed in a foreign culture every day, yet still firmly attached to my Irish roots, I help others to overcome that ‘lost in translation’ feeling and to have a confident, natural and convincing voice in English.
In 2004 I completed a B.A. in Spanish and French at Trinity College Dublin, which encompassed core modules in literature, textual analysis and translation. A Master’s Degree in Translation Studies further developed these modules and heightened my sensitivity to the linguistic, cultural and intellectual issues involved in translation.
