I’m Ailish,a freelance translator & proofreader
My curiosity and love for languages dates back to balmy evenings in the French Dordogne mingling with French-speaking children and trying to figure out what they were saying. Fast forward to the winter months in Ireland where I eagerly awaited my pen-pal’s handwritten letter so that I could jot down some new French words and start writing my next letter.
Translation was part of my destiny. Now based in Catalonia, immersed in a foreign culture every day, yet still firmly attached to my Irish roots, I help others to overcome that ‘lost in translation’ feeling and to have a confident, natural and convincing voice in English.
In 2004 I completed a B.A. in Spanish and French at Trinity College Dublin, which encompassed core modules in literature, textual analysis and translation. A Master’s Degree in Translation Studies further developed these modules and heightened my sensitivity to the linguistic, cultural and intellectual issues involved in translation.
M.A. in Translation Studies (Dublin City University).
B.A. (Hons) in Spanish and French (Trinity College Dublin).

“Ailish has translated and proofread numerous texts of mine over the past three years and she has always done an impeccable job. High ranking journals such as Positions: Asia Critique have accepted my academic articles based on her proofreading, and her work also helped me to present research projects to apply for post-doctoral grants such as the Marie Sklodowska-Curie and the British Academy. Her manner, availability and efficiency when performing her work have always been excellent”
Ferran de Vargas – Doctor in Intercultural Studies
“Since 2008 we have collaborated with Ailish, an outstanding professional in the field of linguistic services in English, both as a translator from Catalan and Spanish to English and as an English proofreader. We have worked with her on the translation of texts for museums, brochures, webpages, reports and other types of texts, as well as on subtitling projects. Both we as an agency, and our direct clients, are very satisfied with the quality of her translations and with her professionalism and punctuality. We have every intention of continuing to work with her in the future and we highly recommend her to other professionals”

How do I get the ball rolling?
First things first, I’ll need to see the document you need translated. Send me your document and I’ll assess it and provide you with a quote.
How long will it take?
This depends on many factors (word count, specific terminology, research required, etc.) but to give you an idea, I translate approximately 2,500 words per day.
I’ve written an article for publication in English but I’m not a native English speaker. Can you help me?
Of course! Send me your document and I’ll let you know how I think I can help.
I have audio-visual material that I need translated. Can you help?
Yes, I can translate your film or documentary script or create the subtitles and translate them for your target audience.
